Oak wreath tutorial

Background
To create the background I sprayed a letter-sized piece of Accent Opaque with plenty of water and Uncharted Mariner Distress Spray Stain and let it dry overnight. The next day I created the texture with the Pinkfresh Studio’s Stitches Cover Plate. This had the added bonus of flattening the cardstock after its bath.
Wreath
For the wreath I used the Mighty Oak die set from The Greetery and cut it from different cardstocks in autumnal colors.
It’s best to cut many more leaves than you think you’re going to need. It’s much easier to create a full wreath, if you don’t have to stop and die cut more leaves when you’re in your creative zone.
I put some Crooked Broomstick Distress Crayon on the edges of the leaves and blended it out with a detailed brush. This gave the leaves more depth. I also used crayons on the acorns and the acorn hats.
My Distress Crayons live in a spinning desk tidy on my desk. I love that they’re always close by to quickly add color to my projects.
To give myself a starting point, I cut out a Kraft circle with two nested circle dies and glued it to the background. Then I placed three branches around the circle and started adhering leaves, starting with the largest ones. Some leaves I glued down to the background, others I popped up on foam for dimension. I kept going until I felt the wreath was nice and full.
Sentiment
The sentiment is from Taylored Expressions. It’s called Mini Strips - Harvest. I used the Mini Strips Flags Die to cut it out. I love that you get so many sentiments by simply stamping and die cutting once.
To match the background, I colored the cardstock with an Uncharted Mariner Distress Crayon. Again, loving having my Distress Crayons close at hand.
When the card front was done, I trimmed a little off each side so the Kraft cardbase would act as a frame. I just love the combination of dark blue and Kraft.
