New product line: Tarot accessories

I use Amazon affiliate links. That means that you support my business whenever you click on a link and buy something, at no additional cost to you.

I didn’t blog yesterday because I went to the dollar store looking for materials for a new product line. While I was looking for good SEO keywords for my greeting cards Marmalead kept showing me that there are lots of people looking for accessories for tarot cards, particularly tarot deck boxes and stands for displaying individual cards. I’m kind of surprised that nobody has jumped on that niche, given how popular tarot and oracle cards are. My guess would be that part of the problem is that there is no standard size for these types of card decks. Sure, if you google it, you’ll find out that 2.75” by 4.75” is the standard size. But I own 8 or 9 decks and none of them are the same size. In fact one of my favorite decks is circular.

At DollarTree I found these little sandwich boards that will make nice display stands for individual tarot cards. A lot of people who use tarot or oracle decks regularly will draw a card each morning to guide them through the day. Most photo frames are just too fiddly to deal with on a daily basis. Most card stands on offer now use only a narrow slit to hold up the card. I think a little sandwich board with a ledge at the bottom is better. We’ll see if the market agrees.

Here’s my prototype with a card from one of my smaller decks, the Victorian Fairy Tarot. I’ve painted the wood parts of the stand black, added a ledge to the bottom of the board and glued scrapbook paper to it.

Today I’ve packed an order and given some sample cards to a few neighbors. In the evening I went to Michael’s to look for unfinished wood boxes that I can turn into tarot boxes. I found several that I can use. I’m looking forward to some light woodworking in addition to my paper crafting over the next couple of days.
